A busy day with our Partners.
Along with pack-up for Bahrain, we’ve hosted all the Team’s Partners in Enstone today. The drivers have been here, too: Robert, Vitaly, Ho-Pin and Jerome. It was a chance for them to show off their new motor, the R30, and mingle with the guys who help us go racing.
When the drivers arrived bright and early this morning, their first task was to walk around the factory and see the guys and gals who make their cars. There was plenty of handshaking and introductions because this was their first chance to meet all the different faces at RF1.
The Partner event was a bit like a second launch. We’d installed an R30 on a special stage in our communications centre, which looked stunning. Everyone I spoke to said how much they loved the colours (and their logos) and that the car looked really aggressive with its new livery. I think it’ll be hard to miss the R30s when they’re on track this year – the new colours are certainly eye-catching.
After drinks and some Q&As with the drivers, it was time for the real star of the show to deliver its party piece as we fired up one of the cars. The brutal roar of an F1 car is one of those amazing sounds you just have to experience up close. TV never does it justice and it always makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up. I also find it impossible not to smile when I hear an F1 engine fire up. I’m convinced it’s a reflex action. A quick glance at the guests confirmed my theory. The magic of F1 delivered once again, even though the car didn’t even move.
Next up was lunch with the drivers. On the menu today was pancetta-wrapped steak mignons on crunchy sautéed potatoes, beautifully cooked as usual. For dessert we had chocolate fondant pudding. My compliments to the chef!
All in all it was a great day. Here are some snaps of the best moments…
